The existing Wardens were re-appointed under the terms of the new Gold Fields Act 1857 [21 Victoria 32] on 4 January 1858.
The five “full time” Chinese Protectors – Drummond, W H Foster, Hamilton, Standish, and Graham Webster – were given the added duties of Wardens of the Gold Fields, as was the Police Magistrate Clissold.
